CNS-03A – M6 Standard Cage Nut Set – Black – 12mm Thread (Bag of 50)
An M6 cage nut set is a standard fastening method for most 19-inch racks and cabinets with square mounting holes. This black-finish version is often chosen for aesthetic consistency in racks with dark or black-painted rails. Each set includes:
- Cage nut – a square nut retained in a spring steel “cage” that clips into the rail.
- Bolt (M6 × 12 mm) – black-finish machine screw that threads into the nut to secure equipment.
- Washer – distributes load and helps protect painted or plated surfaces from damage.
Function & Use
Because rack rails are typically thin steel, they cannot be threaded directly. The cage holds a replaceable M6 nut behind the mounting hole, allowing equipment to be securely fixed with a standard machine screw.
- Designed for the common 9.5 mm × 9.5 mm square punch-outs in rack rails.
- Usually installed using a cage nut tool or flat-blade screwdriver to compress the cage tabs.
- Easily removed and replaced if threads become damaged—no need to replace the rail.

- When working in populated racks, use insulated tools to avoid accidental shorts.
